Code of Ethics

The Florida Animal Control Association is dedicated to promoting professionalism in the Animal Care and Control Field. The following Codes of Ethics, developed by the Association’s members, promote ethical standards within the profession and its agencies.

FACA is dedicated to providing individuals and local organizations with educational opportunities, information and support to encourage a professional level of service within communities throughout the State.

Animal Holding Periods

FACA recommends a minimum holding period of five (5) working days for owned animals and three (3) working days for strays. An animal is considered owned if it possesses any form of identification. Exceptions to the holding period should be made when an animal is so severely injured, sick, or diseased that euthanasia is the humane choice.
